Bryan Adams Week

September 1, 2008

Ci6 Top3 Part1

Ci6 Top3 Part2
That was cool, Bryan Adams seemed quite excited about Theo’s piano playing. That was really fun to watch his reaction.

Ci6 Top3 Part5
I loved Theo’s duet, I had actually been hoping all along that he and Drew would do a Wham! song, so I thought it was funny that he came up with this duet idea.
It would have been a kick to see the two of them wearing 80’s flourescent t-shirts, singing a Wham! tune (I just can’t get over how much Theo reminds me of George Michael).
I was also curious as to where he was going when he started to walk all around the stage, I think that maybe he should have had more interaction with his singing partner then instead.

Ci6 Top3 Part6

I wonder if this is the reason the judges choose this song for Theo.

George Michael. Long and winding road. Live.
I was so amazed when I heard this song yesterday, I had no idea George Michael had such a beautiful voice.

The Top 10 Performances Review

July 15, 2008

Theo Tams – Silly Boy Blue
I didn’t recognize this Bowie song, but it was a good choice for Theo. He is so talented, and his voice is so suited to this song (I was really wondering song what he would choose). He totally proves again that he is quite a talented musician with this song choice.

Adam Castelli – Rebel Rebel
What an entrance!…very cool (and a bit crazy too!). This is one Bowie song that just completely suits him, great song choice Adam!

Sebastian Pigott – Let’s Spend the Night Together
Just terrible. I was really hoping for ‘China Girl‘, ‘Blue Jean’ or even ‘Jean Genie‘. Very disappointing performance from him. Is he just trying to get voted off now that his brother is gone?

Earl Stevenson – Rock n’ Roll Suicide
This is similar to his performance last week, but I would like to see more performances similar to ‘All Along the Watchtower‘(which I loved).

Amberly Thiessen – Space Oddity
What was she thinking? Zack seems to be quite stuck on her, I think he would even stick up for her if she had done something like Under Pressure.
She isn’t memorable and should ONLY sing Norah Jones. I’d like to see her sing “Sunrise” by Norah Jones, if she could handle that one, then maybe I might actually vote for her.

Drew Wright – Five Years
Good drummer, bad singer. Seriously, I just don’t get it. What does everyone see in this guy?

Mookie Morris – The Man Who Sold The World (Nirvana version)
Very cool song, I think he’ll get by on his cool factor. He was lacking a little vocally but this is still a good choice for him. He wanted to show the judges that he could do a song without the Mookie dance.

Katherine St-Laurent – Cat People (Putting Out Fire)
Well, it looks like she’ll be back next week, 80’s rocker Katherine. Such a great choice for her.

Mitch MacDonald – Moonage Daydream
So boring as usual. Please finally take this guy off the show.

Mark Day – Dancing in the Street
I was hoping for a great (hilarious) show from this guy…I was thinking he might come out dressed ‘in drag’ in some totally outrageous outfit and start into ‘Space Oddity’, or ‘Scary Monsters’ dressed in a Monster outfit. That would make my day, I may have HAD to vote for him just to see what he’d come up with for next week.

Poor guy, I really do feel bad for him when I watch his performances, he really does seem to believe that people think he’s talented. I didn’t think he could top last week’s terrible ’Against All Odds’ performance (which just has to prove that he thinks he can sing), but this week the dancing in ‘Dancing in the Street’ topped it off. Please Canada, put this poor guy out of his (and OUR) misery.

Tribute to Oliver Pigott

July 11, 2008

I was sorry to see Oliver leave the show, especially considering he is easily way more talented than at least 3 of the current Top 10. However, Canada Voted and these are the sad results.

Oliver Pigott – I Hear You Knockin’ (But You Can’t Come In)
This was an outrageous performance, but it may have also worked in your favour. You got our attention, you’ve been playing in bars too long, man.

Oliver Pigott – Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
This one really showed what you CAN do. I loved Farley’s comment.

Oliver & Sebastian Pigott’s Audition

Hopefully you’re on your way to one sweet record deal.

There’s a show in Toronto tonight according to this thread (also here) in the Canadian Idol forum.

Top 16 Performances Review Pt. 2

July 9, 2008

The second group of competitors in Canadian Idol’s Top 16

Mitch MacDonald was up first with “Blue” by The Jay Hawks. How did this guy get this far? Not a very good song and the performance is tiny talent time. This guy has NO charisma and a pleasant but bland voice.

Up next was Gary Morissette with “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. Another song that NO one should do, especially this guy. What is this White Zombie with a hint of Nirvana. Scary. On so many levels. At least he did a different take on the song.

Katelyn Dawn was next with “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Why, why, why, why? I’m not even sure Dolores O’Riordan should do this song. At least she seems to get this is not a happy song, unlike what she did to She Talks to Angels, for which she should have been voted off. Best part of that performance was that it lasted less than 2 minutes long.

Oliver Pigott was up next with “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Why is Henry Rollins doing Bill Withers. Definitely funky, but this guy needs to learn what songs suit him. I really want to like this guy, but he needs help with his song choices. I think the judges are commenting on his potential instead of his performance.

Sebastian Pigott sang “Bring it On Home To Me” by Sam Cooke. This guy has sung in too many bars and it shows. This song was way out of his range (like most songs). He’s a definite performer and I’d totally go to see his show if it came to town, but Idol he’s not. Nice harmonica playing though.

Earl Stevenson was next with Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.” Not a surprise choice for this guy. This is Earl’s last show. I really enjoyed his previous performances but this one doesn’t stand up. Sass said it was “dope,” I think she meant that it made her think of the dope he obviously smokes a lot of.

Katherine St-Laurent was next with Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield.” Wow, bad, right out of the gate. She’s clearly getting by on the Quebec vote, but they’ve got to start voting for someone who has some rhythm, or can sing the songs he/she selects. Maybe she should sing some Celine, at least her terrible English would be appropriate.

Drew Wright was the last performer of the night with “The Reason” by Hoobastank. Why’s this guy still on? Can’t sing on key and no star power. And what “where are they now?” compilation did he resurrect this song from?

Top 16 Performances Review Pt. 1

July 9, 2008

Martin Kerr started things off with Coldplay’s “Fix You.” You know he’s wanted to do Coldplay all along, well, now he’s done and now he can home….. Boring, boring and did I mention boring? Oh yeah, don’t mouth off to the judges, for the record, Zack isn’t competing.

Then there was Theo Tams who sang the girliest of girl’s songs with Colbie Caillat’s “Bubbly”. Well he made it a little (a little) less girlie, but frankly, this performance didn’t make me want to care. He’s probably the most talented person competing and my personal my pick for #1, but this performance just doesn’t cut it. The only thing that redeems this performance is his immense talent. Did I mention not to mouth off to the judges, really.

Amberly Thiessen from took the stage next with “You and I Both” by Jason Mraz. Zack said it all, sing a song that’s got star power, and wear something you wouldn’t wear to work to Starbucks, which incidentally is where you’ll be seeing her next week… “tall, or grande?” I really don’t get why the judges keep raving about her.

Adam Castelli followed up with the Bobby Darin version of “If I Were a Carpenter.” Another one of the real stars on the show this year in my humble opinion, but this performance was just bland, I can hardly remember it already. Sadly, one of the best performances of the night.

Up next was Marie-Pierre Bellerose with Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” Just don’t do this song. No one can sing like Janis and everyone has tried, in every bar band and every karaoke night ever. Good-bye.

Omar Lunan from Scarborough, Ont., was next with Garth Brooks’ “If Tomorrow Never Comes.” Garth Brooks?… Really? Probably the most talented person this season after Theo, but this was just not his best performance, and there were parts that seemed off key. My only question is, is the world ready for the return of Boys 2 Men.

Then came Mark Day singing “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins. He didn’t beat those odds. This sounds like a bad karaoke performance. Like Farley said, he was all over the map vocally, first he’s flat, then he’s sharp, then there’s the fact that he doesn’t have the right tone of voice for this song (think a man’s voice). I think Ben said it all when he said Phil Collins disappeared from film forever. Just like Mark Day did after Top 16.

The last performer of the night was Mookie Morris singing “Valerie” by the Zutons. First off, the Mook-walk doesn’t look nearly as cool without a guitar. Seems like a groovy little song but I couldn’t really hear him singing. The song was cool, but it was really just not memorable.

Are all of the singers getting home sick? All I could think was “these people WANT to get sent home, even the talented ones. Please guys (and girls), step up and show off what you have or don’t bother showing up at all. This is only week 3 of the real competition you can’t be fading out just yet.
