“Lloydminster’s own Earl Stevenson stopped by the studios to talk about his experience with Canadian Idol so far, and perform a song with “The Earlybirds”.
Earl from Idol
So, you watched local boy Earl Stevenson on Canadian Idol on Monday night and heard his rendition of All Along The Watchtower? You only heard the half of it! Earl and his band “The Earlybirds” stopped by The Goat studios a couple weeks back for an interview, and while here they recorded around a dozen songs in what our producers are calling “Studio 106″.
Here’s the full mix of All Along The Watchtower. Tell your friends, and vote for Earl!

A life of music for Lethbridge’s Top 24 Idol hope, Theo Tams
A couple of exerpts from the article:
“Lethbridge’s Theo Tams is definitely a unique soul, born and raised in and around Lethbridge. This young man has been trained to sing opera of all things.”
“The university student, who spent four months in India volunteering at an orphanage, cites Mother Teresa as a role model in his life.
“The first two weeks in India was horrible, I’d never seen that poverty,” said Tams. “But one of my last days there, I got to go to the convent that Mother Teresa stayed at and I got to read through some of her journals . . . it was an amazing experience.”"

I know that regional voting plays a big part in Canadian Idol results, and that Newfoundland always manages to get a contestant into the Top 10. Well, that most certainly explains how Mark Day made it through.
I am interested to see how they handle the themes, next week is David Bowie week. What song do you think Mark Day will entertain us with? Or for that matter, what Bowie song would you like to see and from which competitor?
There’s a great discussion about the song choices for Bowie week in the CI Forum here.

The second group of competitors in Canadian Idol’s Top 16
Mitch MacDonald was up first with “Blue” by The Jay Hawks. How did this guy get this far? Not a very good song and the performance is tiny talent time. This guy has NO charisma and a pleasant but bland voice.
Up next was Gary Morissette with “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. Another song that NO one should do, especially this guy. What is this White Zombie with a hint of Nirvana. Scary. On so many levels. At least he did a different take on the song.
Katelyn Dawn was next with “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Why, why, why, why? I’m not even sure Dolores O’Riordan should do this song. At least she seems to get this is not a happy song, unlike what she did to She Talks to Angels, for which she should have been voted off. Best part of that performance was that it lasted less than 2 minutes long.
Oliver Pigott was up next with “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Why is Henry Rollins doing Bill Withers. Definitely funky, but this guy needs to learn what songs suit him. I really want to like this guy, but he needs help with his song choices. I think the judges are commenting on his potential instead of his performance.
Sebastian Pigott sang “Bring it On Home To Me” by Sam Cooke. This guy has sung in too many bars and it shows. This song was way out of his range (like most songs). He’s a definite performer and I’d totally go to see his show if it came to town, but Idol he’s not. Nice harmonica playing though.
Earl Stevenson was next with Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.” Not a surprise choice for this guy. This is Earl’s last show. I really enjoyed his previous performances but this one doesn’t stand up. Sass said it was “dope,” I think she meant that it made her think of the dope he obviously smokes a lot of.
Katherine St-Laurent was next with Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield.” Wow, bad, right out of the gate. She’s clearly getting by on the Quebec vote, but they’ve got to start voting for someone who has some rhythm, or can sing the songs he/she selects. Maybe she should sing some Celine, at least her terrible English would be appropriate.
Drew Wright was the last performer of the night with “The Reason” by Hoobastank. Why’s this guy still on? Can’t sing on key and no star power. And what “where are they now?” compilation did he resurrect this song from?
